Receipt Hog is an Android and iOS app that pays you for taking photos of your shopping receipts. Whenever you shop at a participating drug store, grocery store or chain store, you can snap a quick picture of your receipt and earn coins that can be cashed in for Paypal cash or Amazon gift cards. Cash in rates get better the higher you plan to cash out for, but start at 1000 coins for $5.
The amount of coins you net from each receipt is dependent on how much you spent at the store during this current visit. It does not matter what you buy -- as long as you are shopping at an associated store. Receipts earn between 5 (<$10 total purchase) up to 20 coins ($100+), and you can submit up to three receipts to the same store within a week. Receipts must also be less than fourteen days old to be counted. (Sometimes you will also get a chance to take a short survey about your shopping trip that is worth bonus coins.)
Stores that are accepted:
- Stores like Walmart, Kmart, Target, BigLots, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, etc.
- Stores like Walgreens or CVS.
- Grocery stores such as Shop n' Save, Deribergs, HEB, Schnucks, etc.
- Dollar stores such as Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Five Below, etc.
The more regularly you upload the receipts, the better benefits you get. If you submit receipts every week for a total of five weeks you go what they call 'Hog Wild'. This means that every receipt you submit thereafter earns you not only your coins, but an extra spin on the Hog Wheel. The Hog Wheel offers you a chance to earn bonus coins, money, etc. Referring people to Receipt Hog also earns you extra spins on the Hog Wheel.
Personally, this is not a big earner. I don't shop enough to make this worthwhile and the coins you can earn from a purchase don't give me a reason to go shop. But it does give me a reason to collect receipts from my friends and family, which I then scan and send in for coins. So, if you are looking for a very very small extra income that takes about ten minutes of work each week, look into downloading Receipt Hog. Otherwise, I would probably pass this buddy up.
